[edit] WP2 Survey Translation Process
The WP2 survey has been developed in English initially and needs to be translated into other languages where this is deemed necessary to achieve a reasonable response rate across all research disciplines. This wiki page contains instructions for creating a localised version of the survey.
[edit] General Remarks
Local survey coordinators should have access to the SurveyMonkey account using the username and password circulated by email on 28th August 2008. If you are having problems please contact Alex Voss.
[edit] Step 1: Make a Copy
After logging into SurveyMonkey, please select 'Create Survey' and then 'Copy an existing survey' and select the 'EUAsiaGrid - Requirements - EN' survey - this is the English master copy. Now give the new survey an appropriate name such as 'EUAsiaGrid - Requirements - TH' for the Thai translation. You should always work with the copy you have created, please do not edit the master copy!
Copying the survey rather than re-creating it from scratch not only means a great saving in effort but also helps to ensure that the survey structure is identical in all cases. This will be important when we try to combine the results.
[edit] Step 2: Edit Survey Questions
Clicking the 'Create Survey' button takes you straight into edit mode for your new survey. Now you can start the translation process. I have created a draft German version of the survey as you can see below.
Please note that you will have to translate the page titles and text as well as the questions.
[edit] Step 3: Start Data Collection
The section on collecting and analysing data will be developed in a bit more depth later on. At the moment, suffice to say that you can create many collectors for each survey, so you can easily create one for testing purposes. Feel free to play with this.
